Sound Familiar?
You're Done Putting in Effort and Getting Nowhere
- 50 minutes is never enough time for both of you to actually say what's on your mind
- Coordinating two schedules for weekly sessions has felt like its own full-time job
- You need real help now — not a waitlist, not months of slowly circling the issue
- You're new to couples therapy, and starting with something focused just makes more sense than committing to an open-ended weekly slot
- You've done weekly therapy before and gotten value from it, but you're ready for something that moves faster
What an Intensive Can Actually Do
A couples intensive can:
- Move you through a conflict cycle or a stuck pattern in days, not months
- Fit into both your schedules with far less disruption than weekly sessions over months
- Shift you out of defensiveness and into actual connection, in a way that holds afterward
- Give you real momentum instead of managing the "fight of the week" every seven days
What's Included
What a Couples Intensive Actually Includes
Intake With Both of You (60 min)
We start together — reviewing what brought you here and what we'll actually focus on for the rest of the intensive.
Two Individual Sessions (60 min each)
I meet one-on-one with each of you separately, to hear your personal and relationship history without the other partner in the room.
Extended Couples Sessions
After the intake and individual sessions, we move into extended two-hour couples sessions — real time to work through something, not just open it up.
Built-In Breaks
Extended sessions are genuinely tiring. Real breaks are built into the schedule so you have room to reset, not just push through.
Sample Schedule
What the Day Actually Looks Like
Day One (5-Hour Package)
- Intake, together (1 hour)
- Individual session, partner one (1 hour)
- Individual session, partner two (1 hour)
- Break (1 hour)
- Extended couples session (2 hours)
Day Two (If You Choose the 9-Hour Package)
- Extended couples session (2 hours)
- Break (1 hour)
- Extended couples session (2 hours)
How This Is Different From Weekly Therapy
Weekly therapy asks you to check in, remember where you left off, and then stop right as things start to open up... An intensive removes that entirely — real, uninterrupted time to actually process what's going on, instead of managing it in installments.
Some couples use an intensive as a one-time reset before returning to weekly sessions elsewhere. Others use it as a supplement while already in ongoing therapy. And some use it as the entire process — a focused way to get somewhere real without an open-ended commitment.
If what brought you here is specifically betrayal or infidelity, the Betrayal Recovery Program may be a more direct starting point than a single intensive.
Your relationship didn't get stuck in one session.
It doesn't have to heal in one session either — but it can start.

A Quick, Important Note
An Intensive Isn't the Right Fit for Every Couple
This format works well for couples who share the same goal and are ready to do focused, sustained work together. It isn't the right setting in a few specific situations:
- If there's ongoing intimate partner violence in the relationship. This isn't a safe or appropriate format in that situation, full stop. If this is you, please reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) for support that's actually built for what you're facing.
- If you and your partner don't currently share the same goal for the relationship. An intensive isn't the place to decide whether to stay together — a consultation can help figure out a better starting point for that conversation.
- If being in the same room for extended periods feels unsafe or unmanageable right now. This format asks a lot of both of you, and it only works when that's genuinely possible.
If you're not sure whether an intensive is the right fit, that's exactly what a consultation is for — we can figure it out together before committing to anything. I reserve the right to determine that an intensive isn't clinically appropriate or safe, and will always be upfront if that's the case, along with pointing you toward something that actually fits.

-
A couples therapy intensive is an extended format that lets you work through relationship concerns in a focused, uninterrupted way — instead of pausing every 50 minutes and waiting a week to pick back up, you meet for several hours over 1-2 days in Montclair, NJ or virtually across New Jersey, and work through what's going on to completion.
-
A couples therapy intensive removes the time spent re-checking in each week, remembering where you left off, and managing whatever came up in between sessions. That often means real progress happens faster than in weekly couples therapy, and can be especially useful if coordinating two schedules for ongoing weekly appointments has felt unmanageable.
-
We start with an intake together, then two individual sessions so I understand each of your histories and perspectives separately, then extended two-hour couples sessions with real breaks built in. By the end, we talk through next steps — whether that's ongoing weekly couples therapy, a follow-up intensive, or feeling complete for now.
-
Yes. As a therapist for betrayal trauma, I work with couples rebuilding trust after cheating, infidelity, or a significant breach of trust. A couples therapy intensive is often the right format once the betrayal has been disclosed and both partners are ready to work on it together.
-
Not while it's still active or hidden. A couples therapy intensive works best once both partners are aware of what happened and working toward the same goal. If infidelity has been disclosed and you're ready to process and rebuild, the intensive or the Betrayal Recovery Program can help. If it's still ongoing or secret, that needs to be addressed first.
-
A couples therapy intensive works best when both partners share the same goal, even if that goal is simply to try. It's not the right format for deciding whether you want to stay together — if that's where you're at, a free consultation can help figure out a better starting point.
-
This is a private-pay practice, so insurance isn't billed directly. Many out-of-network plans reimburse a portion of the cost of a couples therapy intensive, and a superbill is provided for that purpose. Mentaya is also available to help simplify the reimbursement process.
-
Yes. Couples therapy intensives are available virtually anywhere in New Jersey, or in person at the Montclair office.

Book a free 15-minute consultation to start. We'll talk through what's going on — whether it's infidelity, trust issues, or a pattern you're ready to work through — and confirm a couples therapy intensive is the right fit before scheduling anything.
-
As with any therapy, results aren't guaranteed and every couple's experience is different. Couples therapy intensives are genuinely intense — it's common to feel emotionally tired afterward, and sometimes to notice more friction at first before things settle. Real breaks and a manageable pace are built in throughout, and you'll both feel supported the entire time.
-
For the 1-day, 5-hour intensive: a 1-hour intake together, two 1-hour individual sessions (one with each partner), a short break, then a 2-hour extended couples session.
For the 2-day, 9-hour intensive: day one follows that same structure, and day two adds two more 2-hour couples sessions with a break in between.
